2012 European Music Festival Rumors
Every spring as the festivals fire up for the summer in the United States, we simply forget all of the great artists that like to travel the European festivals. Here is a breakdown of some of those festivals and their already released rumors of attending artists.
The Reading & Leads Festivals: August 24th, 25th & 26th, Yorkshire England
Arguably the largest festivals in Europe. Not only are they are the same weekend, they are spitting distance to one another. This truly makes for a hard decision when it comes to packing the tent gear and deciding where to park. Both festivals have a long rich history starting as far back as 1961 when the Reading festival was officially named the National Jazz Festival. Of course, a lot has change in the years that have passed. Theses stages have been graced with some of the all time greats. With the Ramones in the 70s. Marillion and Alice Cooper in the 80’s. To the all time classic 1992 Nirvana appearance when music journalist Everett True pushed Kurt Cobain on stage in a wheelchair in a medical gown designed to portray his mental weakness. This live performance even went on to be released on album. Today these festivals are better than ever.
The Reading & Leads Festivals have confirmed their main opening night headliners to be the The Black Keys followed by the Foo Fighters with The Cure & Social Distortion headlining the following night. By Sunday night at closing over 60 acts will have left a mark on this years festivities including acts like Tenacious D, At The Drive In, The Maccabees, Paramore, The Shins & Florence And The Machine. Hell, I would go just to see Jack Black. With that said, Jay-Z and Kanye West, Block Party, Green Day, Rammstein, Bad Brains and Skrillex have all been rumored as well.
If you are a die-hard house/drum n bass fan as I am this is the European festival not to miss. It’s just so painful that it is the same weekend as the Reading & Leads festivals. This is not done for competition of music style. It is actually planned around a major banking holiday in England. Thus allowing Monday for cleaning and sleeping. However, you have to love Creamfieds. This event held by the famous Liverpool Cream Clubbing crew is also held at different locations at different dates around the world. If you miss this one you can go see one in Buenos Aires, Peru, Adu Dhabi, Spain, Lithuania, Mexico, Poland and Romania. This is just to name a few.
This years line up has the hair on the back of my neck standing straight up. Friday features the Brooks Brothers, True Tiger, Kissy Sell Out, Union, Riva Starr, Kim Fai & The Japanese Popstars. Saturday features Skrillex, Eddie Halliwell, Sander Van Dooren, Skream Feat Sgt Pokes, Pete Tong, Benny Benassi, John Digweed, Scuba, Third Party, Above & Beyond, Afro Jack, Sabastian Ingrosso, AVICII & The Chemical Brothers. Just to name a few.
Just when you think your head has had enough, Sunday comes blazing through with another amazing lineup. With DeadMau5, Tiesto, Paul Van Dyk, Ferry Corsten, Calvin Harris, Axwell, Porter Robinson, Groove Armada, Laidback Luke, A-trix, Carl Hanaghan, James Zabiela and many, many more. It’s just a little crazy.
Sonisphere May 25th – June 8th Poland, Spain, Switzerland, Finland & France
This touring lineup includes Metallica, SoundGarden, The Offspring, Limp Bizkit, Slayer, Evanescence, Machine Head, Black Label Society, MotorHead & even an appearance of Marilyn Manson in France.
There are too many other festivals going on throughout Europe this summer to mention them all. This is of course not even touching on the amazing Jazz and Classical festivals. However, one last main stream that is absolutely worth mentioning is the London Live Closing Ceremony at Hyde Park. They are calling for Madonna & The Rolling Stones.
With all this information at your fingertips I hope it drives you to take some time off and travel to see a couple great performances. Who knows? I might run into you.
